The cloth

Aso-oke

Iseyin, Oyo State

Aso-oke is woven by hand on narrow looms in south-western Nigeria, in strips a few inches wide that are then sewn edge to edge. The weave is dense and holds its shape, which is why a piece cut from it hangs the way it does, and the metallic thread run through many patterns catches light in a way printed cloth never manages.

Made from Aso-oke

We have nothing in Aso-oke in the shop today. New pieces land in small runs, and this is the cloth we are asked for most.
